Our Blessing Box Ministry

We now have a blessing box located on the sidewalk on the college side of the building. This is for people who need it to come and get something to eat. This is all non-perishable non-cooking food items and bottled water. Your donations would be greatly appreciated. There is a box outside the pastor’s office for you to place your donations. Please keep these people and this ministry in your prayers.

FBC’s Blessing Box

The Bible teaches us about sharing and that’s what this blessing box does.  It allows us to share the blessings that God gives us in helping those less fortunate who are possibly living on the streets of our towns. What is being collected is bottles of water and non-perishable items that are ready to eat such as crackers, cookies, small jars of peanut butter and other individually packed snack items.    A great place to shop for this is the Dollar Tree because everything there is literally a dollar and you get a lot for your dollar.  There is a box located outside the Pastor’s Office for your donations.

FBC’s Blessing Box

We have started a new mission project here at the church and there’s a way you can lend a hand. We have a new blessing box located on the college side of the building out by Neville Street to help those in need. This box will be filled daily with ready to eat food items as well as some personal items for both men and women. If you would like to help, there is a collection box located outside the pastor’s office and items can be left there. Please keep these people in your prayers daily as they struggle.

We Appreciate Our Soldiers

Your help is needed to deliver hope and encouragement to our soldiers!

Through the month of October, we will be collecting notes and letters to send to our soldiers to remind them how much they’re appreciated. By sending notes, we can offer support to active, reserve and veteran military members.

These letters can be dropped off in the church office or you can mail them to the church. Your letters need to be into the church office by October 20th to leave time for the mail. Contact the church office for more details.

Let’s show our soldiers how much we appreciate their sacrifice.

America for Christ Offering 2020

Through the month of April, we will continue to collect our first mission offering which is the America For Christ offering. This year we will be donating our offering directly to the Weirton Christian Center right here in West Virginia. They have an outstanding day program, after school and summer programs which serve hundreds of children in the Weirton area.

We have set a goal of $1500 and as of March 22nd, we were almost there. Let’s push this offering over the top and let the children of Weirton Christian Center know that they are loved right here in Beckley.

You can send or drop off this offering to the church office until we once again gather in the sanctuary. Just be sure to put America For Christ on the memo line. Please keep these children in your prayers as well as the staff of the center. Thank you and may God bless you.

Blessing Bags

Our children have started a new project and are asking for your help. They are learning how everyone is not as fortunate as they are and how blessed they are.

They are making blessing bags that will consist of soap, socks, gloves, a washcloth, toothpaste and toothbrush, brush or comb and hand sanitizer and be put in a gallon Ziploc bag. These are going to be made by our children, distributed as needed. Donations can be left in the box in the Welcome Center.

Our Glow Kids meet every Wednesday at 6:00 PM on the third floor. If you have a child or grandchild grades K-5, they are welcome to come and join the fun and learn about Jesus.

Our Greatest Gift Ever

This month as we are focusing on Christmas gift giving, let’s remember our greatest gift ever – when God sent his Son. Jesus is the reason for the season!!!

December is the time for our annual Retired Ministers & Missionaries Offering. RMMO provides financial support to retired ministers, missionaries and their widowed spouses.

Think about it. Many of these servants of God have very little retirement security. They face increased medical expenses, yearly housing costs and other emergency needs. We all understand these concerns.

Please pray about your part in supporting these faithful servants who may experience difficult times. Offering envelopes are available in the pews for your contributions.

Board of Missions Update

Thank you for your generous support for the World Mission Offering. Our goal for this offering was $1,500 and as of October 20th we not only have reached that goal but surpassed it. Our total is $1,541.00.

Juan Aragon, one of our missionaries in Mexico, is recuperating from surgery. Please continue praying for him and his family. In addition to the Aragon family, please add Keith and Debbie Myers and their children to your prayer list. Their children, Boyden & Bailey, both attend Biola University in southern California. Boyden is in his 4th year and Bailey is a junior.

On October 29th, we were blessed to have Debbie Mulneix share with our congregation her mission experiences. Her experiences were amazing and extremely interesting. Debbie has retired from active missionary work but still needs your prayers as she starts a new journey in her life.

A Note from Jim Adkins

We would like to thank our FBC church family for their prayers, encouragement and support. It is truly an honor for us to be a part of this family. I know that I have missed many Sundays as I/we have been on the road ministering. TODAY, (9/23) I am in Kansas City. This past weekend, I was in Salina, Kansas teaching a seminar on relational evangelism, preaching and sharing the vision of the Global Poultry Initiative. It was a very fruitful week. I fly home tomorrow.

As you know, I returned home from Tanzania on September 14th. Our trip to Tanzania was very fruitful! We were able to evaluate and select about 230 breeding stock of chickens that will be used as the foundation breeding stock to launch a breeding program in Tanzania. This trip to Tanzania was a historical, pivotal accomplishment to begin our partnership with the Tanzania Disciple Making Movement, (TDMM) led by Juma Richard who visited Beckley last February. We also spent time with our national service team, praying, planning and strategizing for our next steps. God is on the move in Tanzania! Thank you for praying.

Our next trip is in November. Lord willing, Melissa and I will travel to Cameroon! We’ll be meeting with the President of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) the Dean of Academics at both of the CBC seminaries. One of the primary goals of our partnership is to train the seminary students in sustainable poultry production. The big idea is to equip the young pastors and church planters with the character, knowledge and skills to make disciples and use poultry to reach others, provide food for themselves and start small businesses in the communities where they minister. We will also visit a piece of land where they are considering to build an agriculture multiplication center. This trip to Cameroon is very timely and strategic! Please pray for this as we prepare to leave in several weeks.

We are so thankful for our First Baptist Church family. We appreciate you. We love you. And I especially want to thank you for taking care of Melissa when I’m away. Your love, support and encouragement means so much to us.

Mission Board October Update

by Helen Jackson

We are off to a slow start with our World Mission Offering. Total amount as of Sept. 22nd is $898.00. We need to continually pray and ask God to show us how we can reach our goal of $1500. All our missionaries need our prayers and financial support. We will be taking this offering through the month of October. The World Mission Offering supports 125 dedicated missionaries plus partners- located in about 30 countries.

Please remember Juan Aragon and his family in your prayers. You remember them. Jenny Fultz introduced you to them a few Sunday mornings ago in her Mission Moment time.

We just recently learned that Juan is suffering with vertigo and ringing in the ears. This interferes greatly with his ability to drive. His ministry involves driving to 18 different rural, needy communities in the southernmost part of Mexico- over rough, unpaved roads.

Thank you for remembering Juan Aragon- along with all our great people in the mission field.

Also keep this date open – Sunday morning, Oct. 27th Debbie Mulneix will be here at First Baptist sharing her mission experiences during the morning worship service.
