Helping Hands

As the calendar turns to the last month of 2020, Helping Hands continues to reach out to the less fortunate here in Beckley and Raleigh County with food and clothing.

Our clothing room is now open Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 until noon to serve our clients. We are taking clothing donations on Tuesday’s only until further notice.

Non-perishable food items are a constant need. Your donations can be brought to Helping Hands Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 until noon or left in the black container outside the church office.

We have several projects ongoing at the moment. The first is our coat and blanket drive. With the weather turning colder, our clients are in need of new or gently used blankets and coats for men, women and children. Blankets seem to go out as quickly as they come in and coats are also in demand. These donations can be left in the black container outside the church office or brought to Helping Hands.

Our second project involves creating treat bags for our kids for Christmas. Right now we are in need of apples, M&M’s, toothbrushes & toothpaste. The non-perishable items can be brought to the church between Dec. 13th & 17th. The fruit can be brought between Dec. 15th & 17th.

Finally, we would like to thank all of you for your donations throughout the year. With God’s help, you have made it possible for us to continue to serve our clients and we look forward to continuing this in the coming year. God bless you all and have a Merry, Merry Christmas.

Helping Hands continues to serve families here in Raleigh County with food and now clothing to those who are in need. Our clothing room is now open Wednesday and Thursday for the clients to get some much needed clothing. We are also taking donations now on Tuesdays only from 9:00 to noon of clothing and household items. You can also leave donations of non-perishable food items in the black container outside the church office.

We are also collecting winter coats and blankets. This is a much needed item in the winter especially with our growing homeless population. These items can be dropped off at Helping Hands during the times they are open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 until noon or left in the church office.

Thinking ahead to Christmas, with Mac’s Toy Fund not happening this year we need approximately 250 new toys and 250 used toys which will be distributed in December. These items as well can be dropped off at Helping Hands. We are also doing treat bags for the children of our clients and this program is explained below. Please keep us in your prayers during this difficult time as we continue to serve the people of Beckley and Raleigh County.

Many new clients have been helped by the generous donations of non-perishable food items as well as those who continue on a monthly basis to need food to feed their families. Your donations are greatly appreciated and we ask that you continue this through the fall. As I mentioned in church on August 9, Helping Hands is hoping to participate in the Macs Toy Fund program this year. Macs will not operate as normal because of the COVID-19. However, in cooperation with Beckley Area Foundation and other agencies such as Helping Hands they will be distributing toys to needy children in Raleigh County. We will accept older toys in “very good” condition and of course we would request cash donations. More information will follow as it becomes available.

Helping Hands will be taking food donations only until further notice. They can be left in the black container outside the church office. We are open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 until noon to serve the people of Beckley and Raleigh County. Please keep us in your prayers as we continue this ministry.

In a perfect world, there would be no need for places like Helping Hands but we all know this world is far less than perfect. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, we’ve had to temporarily adjust our days and hours of operation. Like everyone else, we are concerned for the safety of not only our volunteers but our clients as well. We are making every effort to do both and still be of service to the people of Raleigh County.

Once this medical outbreak is passed, we will resume our regular hours of operation which are Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 until noon. We ask that you hold off on any clothing donations as we are inundated with clothing at this time. We continue to need your donations of non-perishable food items. Once we re-open, those donations can be dropped off either at the church or at Helping Hands.

Please continue to pray for us as well as those less fortunate who we will continue to serve.

As we “March” into the month of March and hopefully winter is behind us, first off we would like to thank you for your prayers, support and donations. We couldn’t do what we do without you. Your donations of food, clothing and money are greatly appreciated.

We help on average of 700 plus families a month and that number continues to increase. Men’s clothing is always a great need along with toiletry items such as toilet paper and women’s feminine products. These items, along with any other spring and summer clothing items, can be either taken to Helping Hands which is open Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 until 12:00 noon or dropped off in the large black container outside the church office.

If you happen to have a few spare hours during the morning, your help would be greatly appreciated. As always, keep us in your prayers as we continue to ministry to the people of Beckley and Raleigh County.

As winter marches on and the weather outside is finally settling into what it should be, that is cold, cold, cold, the needs of Helping Hands grows and grows and grows.

The people of Raleigh County who need assistance is overwhelming at times and that’s why Helping Hands exists, to help those who need food and clothing. Your continued support of prayer, food and clothing donations and money is what keeps the doors open, the lights on and the food panty stocked.

The Bible tells us to feed the hungry and provide clothing to those around us Our volunteers work tirelessly Tuesday through Friday trying to fulfill the basic needs of the people who cross our doors. We even have a crew that works on Monday as the need arises to keep things in order. If you happen to have an extra morning, we sure could use your help.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we continue to minister and help those in the Raleigh County area.

Our Helping Hands Resource Center continues to help the less fortunate in Raleigh County with food and clothing. We had a very successful toy distribution last month providing toys to families to help make their Christmas just a bit brighter. Thanks to our many, many volunteers who work tirelessly week in and week out at our Resource Center as well as the men who do the food pick ups at the various grocery stores.

We are continuing to collect coats, blankets and winter clothing as well as non-perishable food items, soap and toilet tissue. These items can be placed in the large black container outside the church office.
